Valentine Heart
Summary:
Whether it's for Valentine's Day or for any day of the year that you wish to express your love. Nothing works better than a heart shaped box of chocolates. In this Photoshop tutorial, we will learn how to create a valentine's heart box for that special someone.
Step-By-Step Instructions:
1. Open a New Document in Photoshop. Set height/width to 300x300.
2. Create a new layer. Name it "Heart".
3. Select the Custom Shape tool. Choose the Heart shape from the dropdown box at the top of the screen.
4. Select a color for your heart. In this tutorial, we chose a velvet red color.
5. Click and drag to draw your heart. Remember to hold down the Shift key as you drag to make the heart in perfect proportion.
6. Goto Edit > Transform > Distort. Use the shape handles to give your heart some perspective.
7. Create a new layer below the "Heart" layer. Name this new layer "Bottom".
8. Using the Pen Tool, draw the side of the heart as shown below:
9. Select the Path Selection Tool. Right click the path and choose "Make Selection" from menu.
10. Accept the default values in the "Make Selection" pop-up box. Click OK.
11. The path should now be a selection. Fill in the selection with a darker red color using the Paint Bucket tool.
12. Create a new layer over the "Heart" layer. Name this new layer "Ribbon".
13. Select the Polygonal Lasso tool. Draw a selection for the ribbon. Fill the ribbon with the same dark red color used for the bottom of the heart.
14. Click Ctrl+D to deselect.
15. Select the Brush tool. Choose an appropriate size and draw the bow at the top left corner of the heart.
16. Choose a very dark shade of red. Using the Brush tool, draw in the shadows for the ribbon and bow. The shadows should go on the left side of the bow. See illustration below:
17. Create a new layer below all the other layers. Name this new layer "Backdrop".
18. Select the Polygonal Lasso tool. Draw a trapazoid selection for the backdrop of the heart.
19. Choose a color you like and fill in the backdrop selection with the Paint Bucket tool.
20. Click Ctrl+D to deselect.
21. You should now have your Valentine's Heart!
