Notched Tubing
Summary:
Tube are great for connecting various interface graphics together. They give off a futuristic or modern effect that is perfect for websites. In this Photoshop tutorial, we will learn how to create a realistic 3d notched tube for use in various interfaces.
Step-By-Step Instructions:
1. Open a New Document in Photoshop. Choose a good size canvas, such as 300x300 px for width/height.
2. Create a new layer. Name it "Metal Tube".
3. Select the Pen Tool. Create a "S" shape path.

4. Choose a grey as your foreground color. Select the Brush tool and make sure the brush size is set to 19.
5. Select the Path Selection tool. Right click the Path you created in Step 3. Then choose "Stroke Path" from the pop-up box. Click OK.

6. Click the Delete key to delete the path.
7. Right click the "Metal Tube" layer. Choose "Blending Options" from the pop-up list.
8. Set the properties for "Drop Shadow" to the following:

9. Set the properties for "Bevel and Emboss" to the following:

10. Click OK to accept changes to Blending Options and you should have something like the following:

12. Choose Black as your foreground color and select the Line Tool.
13. Zoom in at the top of the tube and create a black line going across the tube.
(Note, you will be drawing lines on the same "Metal Tube" layer, because you want to retain the same Blending Options you applied in steps 8 and 9.)

13. Continue adding lines down the length of the tube and you should have your finished tube.

(This technique can also be used for creating tube style letters and text effects.)
