Fade Into Collage

Fade Into Collage

Summary:
Sometimes it can be difficult to create an appealing graphic design piece that is moving. Nothing accomplishes this better than fading photographs together to express feeling. In this Photoshop tutorial, we will learn how to fade a photograph into another image to create a montage or collage.

Step-By-Step Instructions:
1. Open two photos that you want to use for your fade into collage.
One photo of the background scene (Beach).

The other photo of something else (Girl's Face).

2. Copy and paste the face onto a new layer overlapping the background scene.

3. Select the Eraser tool and erase around the face so that only the face is showing.

4. When you are done, you should have a face without the background overlapping the background scene.

5. Now click the "Add Vector Mask" button in the layers palette. This will create a white box next to the woman's face in the layer. (As shown below circled in red.

6. Select the Gradient tool. Make sure the gradient is black to white.
7. Drag your cursor across the entire surface of the canvas (from left to right) and it will create a fade montage effect.
